Camu Camu + ICI is an investigational combination therapy consisting of a prebiotic extract from the Camu Camu berry (Myrciaria dubia) and a standard-of-care immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI), typically an anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody. The active prebiotic component is castalagin, a polyphenol that modulates the gut microbiome by specifically enriching for Akkermansia muciniphila. This shift in the microbiome is intended to overcome resistance to ICIs and enhance their antitumor efficacy. Developed by the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), the combination is being evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and metastatic melanoma, including those who are refractory to prior ICI treatment.
