Overview

CAN-3110 is a first-in-class, replication-competent oncolytic herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) immunotherapy engineered for dual activity—direct oncolysis and immune activation—in a single therapeutic agent. Its activity is conditional upon the expression of Nestin in cancer cells, allowing selective targeting of tumor tissue while sparing normal cells. The drug is being developed primarily for recurrent high-grade glioma (rHGG), including glioblastoma and other malignant gliomas, with ongoing phase 1b clinical trials showing promising safety and survival data compared to historical controls after intratumoral injection. Preclinical studies are also exploring its potential in melanoma and other solid tumors[1][2][3][4][5][6][8].
