Overview

CAN0002 (also known as EPO-XL) is a novel, long-acting, hyperglycosylated recombinant human erythropoietin (hyperEPO) being developed by Jecho Biopharmaceuticals for the treatment of anemia, particularly in the context of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cancer chemotherapy. It is designed as a biobetter of darbepoetin alfa, sharing an identical 165-amino acid sequence but featuring a distinct and optimized glycosylation profile. Specifically, CAN0002 contains extensive N-acetyllactosamine (LacNAc) structures at its five N-glycosylation sites and an additional O-glycosylation site at Ser120, which are intended to enhance its in vivo stability, extend its half-life, and improve biological activity compared to existing erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs). The drug acts as an agonist of the erythropoietin receptor, stimulating the production and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow to increase red blood cell levels.
