Overview

CAN101, also known by its brand name Hunterase, is an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) for Hunter syndrome (Mucopolysaccharidosis II, MPS II). It is a recombinant form of the human iduronate-2-sulfatase (IDS) enzyme, which is deficient in patients with Hunter syndrome. The therapy aims to replace the missing enzyme, facilitating the breakdown of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) that accumulate in various tissues and organs, thereby mitigating the symptoms and progression of the disease. CANbridge Pharmaceuticals, in partnership with GC Pharma, initiated the commercial launch of Hunterase in China in late 2021, where it is the only approved targeted therapy for the condition. GC Biopharma developed Hunterase and obtained marketing authorization in South Korea in 2012.
