Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Canagliflozin + simvastatin is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs: **canagliflozin**, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor used for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus, and **simvastatin**, a statin used to treat hypercholesterolemia and reduce cardiovascular risk. Canagliflozin lowers blood glucose by inhibiting SGLT2 in the kidneys, thereby reducing renal glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion. Simvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, reducing cholesterol biosynthesis and increasing LDL uptake. The combination is used to address both glycemic control and hyperlipidemia in patients who require management of both conditions.
