CancerVax's breast cancer immunotherapy is an experimental mRNA-based treatment currently in pre-clinical development. Part of the company's Universal Cancer Treatment Platform, the therapy utilizes "Smart mRNA" encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) to target two proprietary markers: Marker1, a cell surface protein, and Marker2, a cancer-specific genetic signature. The unique mechanism of action involves delivering mRNA that instructs breast cancer cells to express antigens typically associated with common viruses like measles or chickenpox. This "viral mimicry" or disguise is intended to trigger a robust immune response by activating the patient's existing immune memory against these viral pathogens, thereby directing the immune system to attack and eliminate the tumor cells. The program is slated to begin pre-IND animal studies in 2026.
