Candacort

Candacort is a topical dermatological cream developed and marketed by Hoe Pharmaceutical. It is a combination formulation containing clotrimazole (1%), an imidazole antifungal, and hydrocortisone (1%), a mild corticosteroid. Clotrimazole exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes, by targeting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase. This leads to structural and functional impairment of the fungal membrane. Hydrocortisone provides anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions by acting as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, thereby suppressing the inflammatory response. Candacort is indicated for the topical treatment of various fungal skin infections, including tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, and candidiasis, particularly when these conditions are accompanied by prominent inflammation.
