Candazole

Candazole is a topical antifungal formulation containing 1% micronized clotrimazole, developed and marketed by Hoe Pharmaceutical. As a broad-spectrum imidazole derivative, it is indicated for the treatment of various superficial fungal infections of the skin, including tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea versicolor, and cutaneous candidiasis. The drug works by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase (CYP51), which is essential for the biosynthesis of ergosterol. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of methylated sterol precursors lead to structural and functional damage to the fungal cell membrane, increasing its permeability and ultimately causing cell death. Candazole is available in cream and lotion forms for twice-daily topical application.
