Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Candesartan + lacidipine is a combination antihypertensive therapy that pairs an angiotensin II receptor blocker (candesartan) with a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (lacidipine). This combination provides complementary mechanisms of action for blood pressure control. Candesartan blocks angiotensin II receptors, preventing vasoconstriction and sodium retention, while lacidipine blocks calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, causing vasodilation primarily in peripheral and coronary arteries. Studies show this combination improves endothelial function, reduces oxidative stress, and decreases immune activation in hypertensive patients with overweight and obesity.
