Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Candesartan cilexetil + hydrochlorothiazide is a fixed-dose combination medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It combines two active ingredients: candesartan cilexetil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Candesartan blocks the action of angiotensin II at the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide increases urinary excretion of sodium and water by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal tubules of the kidney, further lowering blood pressure. The combination is indicated for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy[1][4][6][7].
