Overview

Candida albicans antigen is an investigational biological immunotherapeutic agent derived from the *Candida albicans* fungus, primarily utilized for the treatment of various types of warts, including plane warts (verruca plana). Administered via intralesional injection, the antigen acts by stimulating a potent local cell-mediated immune response, characterized by a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction. This immune activation facilitates the recognition and destruction of human papillomavirus (HPV)-infected cells, often resulting in the clearance of both the injected lesion and distant, untreated warts. South Valley University has conducted comparative clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of intralesional Candida antigen against other modalities such as autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the management of plane warts.
