candoxatril

Candoxatril is an orally active small molecule prodrug of candoxatrilat, a potent and selective inhibitor of neutral endopeptidase (NEP, also known as neprilysin). By inhibiting NEP, candoxatril increases the levels of natriuretic peptides and other vasoactive substances that are normally degraded by this enzyme. This leads to vasodilatory, natriuretic, and diuretic effects. The drug was developed for the treatment of chronic heart failure and has demonstrated beneficial hemodynamic effects in clinical studies, including improved exercise capacity in patients with mild to moderate heart failure. It is not approved for marketing but has reached up to Phase II clinical trials[1][2][3][4][10].
