Overview

Canine adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (cAT-MSCs) are multipotent stem cells isolated from a dog's fat tissue. These cells have immunomodulatory properties and can differentiate into various cell types, making them valuable for treating multiple conditions in dogs. The therapeutic effects of cAT-MSCs are primarily achieved through their immunomodulatory functions, which operate through interaction with the immune system cells. cAT-MSCs work through several mechanisms: - Paracrine action (secretion of soluble factors) - Release of extracellular vesicles - Apoptosis-mediated immunomodulation - Mitochondrial transfer They release immunomodulatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)-induced gene/protein 6 (TSG-6) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). These cells can be used autologously (from the patient's own tissue) or allogeneically (from a donor).
