Overview

Caniplas is a hyperimmunized, fresh frozen, single-donor, cell-free canine plasma product used in veterinary medicine to supplement clotting factors and immunoglobulins in dogs. It is produced from carefully screened donor dogs that are hyperimmunized to achieve high gamma globulin (IgG) and specific antibody titers, particularly against pathogens such as canine parvovirus and endotoxin, thereby providing passive immunity and anti–TNFα activity that can modulate inflammatory cascades. Caniplas is indicated as a plasma transfusion product in conditions where administration of fresh frozen plasma is appropriate, including acute pancreatitis, parvoviral and other severe diarrheic diseases, coagulopathies, occult bleeding, von Willebrand disease, severe tissue trauma, thrombocytopenia, and hypoproteinemia, with reported benefits in shortening treatment periods, improving survival, and reducing hospitalization and concurrent drug use.[1][3][4][7][8][9][5]
