Canis lupus familiaris skin is an allergenic extract derived from the skin and dander (epithelia) of the domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris). [6, 14] This biological product is used for both the diagnosis and treatment of allergies to dogs in humans. [7, 12] For diagnostic purposes, it is administered as a skin prick test to identify individuals with IgE-mediated sensitivity to dog allergens. [11, 12] For therapeutic use, it is employed in allergen-specific immunotherapy, where gradually increasing doses are administered subcutaneously to desensitize the immune system and induce tolerance, thereby reducing the symptoms of allergic rhinitis or asthma triggered by exposure to dogs. [4, 5, 8] The product is classified as a non-standardized allergenic extract and is distributed by companies such as ALK-Abello, Inc. [3, 7, 17] It was first approved for use in the United States in 1965.
