Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Canmei formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation developed by the Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically indicated for the prevention of recurrence in patients with colorectal adenoma (CRA) following endoscopic polypectomy. The formula is primarily composed of *Bombyx batryticatus* (stiff silkworm) and *Prunus mume* (smoked plum). Mechanistically, Canmei formula is believed to inhibit the adenoma-carcinoma sequence by modulating the gut microbiota—specifically increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as *Bacteroides* and *Akkermansia*—and regulating metabolic pathways, including bile acid metabolism and the inflammatory microenvironment. Clinical studies, including randomized controlled trials, have demonstrated its potential to reduce the recurrence rate of adenomas and improve clinical symptoms in patients.
