Overview

Cannabichromevarin (CBCV) is a naturally occurring, non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid found in the *Cannabis sativa* plant. It is the propyl analogue of cannabichromene (CBC), belonging to the 'varin' class of cannabinoids which are characterized by a three-carbon (propyl) side chain instead of the five-carbon (pentyl) chain found in more common cannabinoids like CBD or THC. Pharmacologically, CBCV does not exhibit significant affinity for the CB1 or CB2 receptors, meaning it lacks the psychotropic effects associated with THC. Instead, its primary mechanism of action involves the modulation of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels, specifically acting as an agonist at TRPV1 and TRPA1 receptors. These channels are critical mediators of pain, temperature sensation, and inflammatory responses. CBCV has also been shown to inhibit the reuptake of the endocannabinoid anandamide, potentially enhancing its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. While it is a subject of preclinical research for conditions such as epilepsy and chronic pain, it is not currently approved as a standalone pharmaceutical drug and is most commonly encountered as a trace component in full-spectrum hemp extracts.
