Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cannabichromevarinic acid (CBCVA) is a rare, non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the *Cannabis sativa* plant. It is the propyl analog of cannabichromenic acid (CBCA). Under a strategic collaboration between Cronos Group and Ginkgo Bioworks, CBCVA is produced using synthetic biology and microbial fermentation techniques rather than traditional plant extraction. This method allows for the scalable production of rare cannabinoids that occur in very low concentrations in nature. In late 2022, Cronos achieved commercialization milestones for the production of CBCVA, enabling its potential use in consumer products and therapeutic applications.
