Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychotropic phytocannabinoid being developed by Kalytera Therapeutics (now Claritas Pharmaceuticals) for the prevention and treatment of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD). This specific drug product is a proprietary oral formulation of CBD in olive oil, designed to enhance the molecule's naturally poor oral bioavailability and stability. CBD exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, which are leveraged to mitigate the immune response following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). In clinical trials, it has been evaluated both as a prophylactic agent to reduce the incidence of aGVHD and as a therapeutic for patients with steroid-refractory disease. The drug's mechanism involves the modulation of cannabinoid receptors and other immune-related pathways, leading to the inhibition of T-cell activation and cytokine release.
