Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid derived from the *Cannabis sativa* plant. This specific formulation, developed by the Hadassah Medical Organization, utilizes a Long Chain Nano Liposphere (LNL) delivery system. LNL is a self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) designed to overcome the inherent limitations of CBD's oral administration, such as poor water solubility and significant first-pass metabolism, which typically result in a low oral bioavailability of approximately 6%. By incorporating CBD into nano-lipospheres, the formulation aims to enhance absorption and increase plasma concentrations. While clinical trials have focused on bioequivalence in healthy volunteers, the formulation is being investigated for therapeutic applications in pain management.
