Overview

This combination therapy involves the use of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid, in conjunction with a monoclonal antibody targeting the Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) checkpoint. CBD is investigated for its potential to modulate the tumor microenvironment and mitigate side effects of immunotherapy, although some clinical evidence suggests it may interfere with the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Anti-CTLA-4 antibodies, such as ipilimumab, work by blocking the inhibitory signal on T cells, thereby enhancing the anti-tumor immune response. The combination is primarily explored in the context of advanced malignancies to either improve therapeutic outcomes or manage treatment-related toxicities.
