Overview

This drug is a specific combination of cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in a 16:1 ratio, currently being evaluated in the CERES clinical trial. Developed under the Epilepsy Research Program of the Ontario Brain Institute, it is intended as an adjunctive therapy for adults with drug-resistant epilepsy and frequent convulsive seizures. The formulation leverages the synergistic effects of phytocannabinoids; CBD is thought to reduce neuronal hyperexcitability by modulating calcium signaling through GPR55 and TRPV1 channels, while THC acts as an agonist at CB1 and CB2 receptors within the endocannabinoid system. The therapy is administered orally and titrated based on CBD content to achieve optimal seizure control.
