Overview

Cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant, primarily in fiber and seed-oil hemp varieties. It is the acidic precursor to cannabidiol (CBD), formed through the biosynthetic pathway involving cannabidiolic acid synthase, which converts cannabigerolic acid into CBDA. Upon exposure to heat or light, CBDA undergoes decarboxylation to form CBD[1][4]. As a small molecule phytocannabinoid, CBDA has been investigated for potential therapeutic effects and is currently under clinical investigation for topical use in degenerative hallux disorders[8]. Its mechanism of action remains under study; while it shares some properties with CBD, including possible anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, its precise pharmacological targets are not fully established.
