Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and a minor constituent of the cannabis plant. It is the decarboxylated form of cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), which serves as the precursor molecule for other major cannabinoids such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). CBG acts as a weak partial agonist at cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors but has much higher potency as an agonist at alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, and an antagonist at transient receptor potential channel TRPM8. These diverse mechanisms contribute to its pharmacological profile, including potential anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anxiolytic, hypotensive, antioxidant effects, and possible applications in metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases.
