Overview

Cannabinerol (CBNR) is a phytocannabinoid derived from *Cannabis sativa L.*, currently under investigation for its neuroprotective properties, particularly in the context of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other neurological disorders. Studies have shown that CBNR can restore mRNA splicing defects and counteract β-amyloid-induced cell viability loss in in vitro AD models. It also normalizes mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum functions, and influences synaptic genes associated with cytoskeleton and ion channels, including calcium, sodium, and potassium channels. Furthermore, CBNR has been observed to activate cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1), suggesting its involvement in neuronal differentiation, synaptogenesis, and synaptic transmission.
