Drug intelligence / Profile preview
cannabinoids + gabapentin is a combination drug product under development by APIRx Pharma Sciences for the management of pain and neuropathic pain. The product is formulated as a medicated chewing gum designed for buccal delivery, which may offer improved bioavailability and faster onset of action compared to traditional oral tablets. Gabapentin acts by binding to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels, thereby reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters. The cannabinoid component typically targets CB1 and CB2 receptors to modulate pain signaling and inflammatory responses. This combination aims to provide synergistic analgesic effects by targeting multiple pathways involved in chronic and neuropathic pain. Currently, the project is in the preclinical stage with patent applications pending.
