Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CannaXan 701-1.1 (AP701) is an oromucosal cannabinoid spray developed by CannaXan GmbH and manufactured by Apurano Pharmaceuticals. It is a lipid-based nanoparticulate formulation (oil-in-water nano-suspension) produced using the proprietary PuranoTec manufacturing process, which results in particle sizes less than 0.4 µm to enhance bioavailability. The drug contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) derived from whole decarboxylated flowers of Cannabis sativa L (variety Bedrocan), standardized to 2.2 mg/mL THC and less than 0.15 mg/mL CBD, along with other cannabis constituents including terpenes and flavonoids. As a cannabinoid therapy, it acts as an agonist at cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2). It is being investigated for the treatment of chronic pain and multiple sclerosis, with Phase I trials demonstrating higher bioavailability and better tolerability compared to conventional cannabinoid medications.
