Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CanniMed 1:20 is a standardized medical cannabis oral oil characterized by a high concentration of cannabidiol (CBD) and a low concentration of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Developed by CanniMed Therapeutics and now managed by Aurora Cannabis, the formulation typically contains 20 mg/mL of CBD and 1 mg/mL of THC. It is designed for therapeutic use in patients who require the anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anticonvulsant properties of cannabinoids while minimizing the psychoactive effects associated with higher THC levels. The drug exerts its effects by interacting with the endocannabinoid system and other non-cannabinoid receptors. CBD acts as a negative allosteric modulator of the CB1 and CB2 receptors and as an agonist at the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor, while the low-dose THC component acts as a partial agonist at CB1 and CB2 receptors. This product is commonly utilized in Canada for the management of chronic pain, symptoms of multiple sclerosis, and certain types of treatment-resistant epilepsy.
