Overview

The Cantacuzino trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine is a seasonal influenza vaccine developed by the Cantacuzino National Institute of Research and Development for Microbiology and Immunology in Romania. It is a trivalent inactivated vaccine (TIV) composed of inactivated hemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens from three influenza virus strains—typically two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and one influenza B lineage—selected according to annual WHO recommendations. The vaccine is designed to stimulate the immune system to produce hemagglutination inhibition (HI) antibodies and T-cell responses against the surface antigens of the circulating influenza viruses. A Phase 3 clinical trial conducted during the 2010–2011 season evaluated the vaccine's immunogenicity, reactogenicity, and safety in healthy adult volunteers.
