Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Canthex is an oral **nutraceutical fixed-dose combination** marketed in India for darkened skin patches in flexural areas, including the neck, axillae, and knuckles, and has been studied in acanthosis nigricans. The current Torrent Pharmaceuticals capsule formulation contains alpha-lipoic acid, biotin, chromium polynicotinate, and zinc sulfate monohydrate. Alpha-lipoic acid provides antioxidant and metabolic cofactor activity, while biotin, chromium, and zinc provide micronutrient support relevant to cellular metabolism, glucose handling, and skin health. A historical Canthex formulation studied in a randomized trial contained calcium pantothenate instead of chromium polynicotinate.
