Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Canuomycin (also known as kynomycin or YB211) is a novel cyclic lipodepsipeptide antibiotic developed by Mudanjiang Youbo Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of Jiuzhitang) in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong. It is a methylated derivative of daptomycin, specifically modified by methylation at the non-proteinogenic amino acid kynurenine. This modification enhances its calcium-dependent oligomerization efficiency and stability on bacterial membranes, leading to improved membrane permeabilization and depolarization. Canuomycin exhibits potent bactericidal activity against Gram-positive pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), as well as daptomycin-resistant strains. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) and complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSTI).
