Overview

CANVAXIN is an allogeneic, whole-cell, polyvalent therapeutic cancer vaccine developed as an immunotherapy for melanoma. It consists of three viable, irradiated, replication-incompetent melanoma cell lines and is designed to stimulate the patient's immune system to recognize and attack melanoma cells. The vaccine was primarily investigated as a postoperative adjuvant treatment for patients with stage III and IV melanoma but also showed promise in stage II disease. Clinical trials indicated a correlation between immune response and clinical outcomes; however, phase III studies were discontinued due to lack of survival benefit. Development and manufacturing have been terminated[1][2][3][4][5][7].
