CAOMECS

CAOMECS (Cultured Autologous Oral Mucosal Epithelial Cell Sheet) is an autologous, tissue-engineered cell therapy developed by CellSeed for the treatment of total limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). The product consists of a multilayered epithelial cell sheet derived from the patient's own oral mucosal epithelial cells. It is manufactured using proprietary UpCell-Insert temperature-responsive culture technology, which allows the sheet to be harvested without proteolytic enzymes and grafted onto the corneal stroma without the need for sutures. By providing a new source of epithelial cells, CAOMECS restores the ocular surface, prevents conjunctivalization and neovascularization, and improves visual acuity in patients whose corneal stem cells have been destroyed.
