Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Caoshi silkworm refers to a traditional Chinese medicine ingredient derived from the dried larva of the silkworm (Bombyx mori) infected by Beauveria bassiana, commonly used in herbal formulations. In clinical studies, it is most often encountered as part of "compound Caoshi silkworm granules" (CCSGs), which typically contain 30 g Caoshi silkworm and 5 g Astragalus per dose. CCSGs have been studied for their effects in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), where they are administered orally alongside standard Western medical therapy. Over a three-month period, CCSGs were shown to improve symptoms and quality-of-life scores in COPD patients compared to routine treatment alone. The mechanism is not fully elucidated but may involve modulation of gut microbiota composition[1][2][3][4][5][6]. The active component is considered an insect protein.
