CAP is a preclinical-stage antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) being developed by **Lipigon Pharmaceuticals** for the treatment of **Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP)** and **Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)**. The drug is designed to target and reduce the expression of **Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4)**. While ANGPTL4 is a well-known regulator of lipid metabolism through its inhibition of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), it also plays a significant role in maintaining vascular integrity. In the context of severe lung infections and inflammation, elevated levels of ANGPTL4 are associated with increased vascular permeability and tissue damage. By silencing ANGPTL4 mRNA, this therapy aims to prevent vascular leakage in the lungs, thereby reducing the severity of pulmonary edema and improving respiratory function in patients with life-threatening pneumonia or ARDS.
