Overview

CAP-2003 is a next-generation therapeutic platform comprised of proprietary extracellular vesicles—including exosomes and microvesicles—derived from human cardiosphere-derived cells (CDCs). These nano-sized vesicles contain a unique cocktail of bioactive molecules such as proteins, microRNAs, and non-coding RNAs. CAP-2003 exerts anti-inflammatory, pro-angiogenic, anti-apoptotic, and anti-fibrotic effects by acting as messengers to regulate the functions of neighboring cells. Preclinical studies have shown that these exosome-based therapies can modulate immune responses (e.g., polarizing macrophages toward anti-inflammatory phenotypes and modulating T-cell activity), stimulate tissue repair, and may be more efficacious than mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes in diseases involving inflammation and fibrosis. The product is being developed for potential use in conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), trauma-related injuries, cardiovascular disorders, fibrosis-related diseases, ocular GVHD/inflammation/fibrosis indications. The developer highlights its potential advantages over cell-based therapies due to easier handling requirements[1][2][5][6].
