Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**CAPCS gel** is a topical cooling-gel formulation containing calcium-based antimicrobial peptide compounds, described as natural calcium derived from marine shellfish together with multiple antimicrobial peptides. It has been evaluated for mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis in adults and in a DNFB-induced murine atopic-dermatitis model. Preclinical findings indicate local anti-inflammatory activity associated with reduced inflammatory-cell infiltration, lower inflammatory-cytokine levels, and reduced skin expression of Toll-like receptor 2 and Toll-like receptor 4; however, a direct molecular binding target has not been established. ([pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9569644/)) A randomized, double-blind active-controlled study compared topical CAPCS cooling gel with hydrocortisone cream in 80 adults with mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis.
