Overview
Capecitabine + cisplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily for the treatment of various cancers, including gastrointestinal cancers such as oesophageal, gastric (stomach), and gastroesophageal junction cancers. Capecitabine is an oral prodrug that is converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in the body, where it inhibits thymidylate synthase, disrupting DNA synthesis and cell division in rapidly dividing cancer cells. Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis of cancer cells.
