Capecitabine + ibandronate is a combination therapy consisting of two small molecule drugs used primarily in the adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer, particularly in older patients. Capecitabine is an oral prodrug of fluorouracil (5-FU) that acts as an antimetabolite, interfering with DNA synthesis and inhibiting tumor cell proliferation. Ibandronate is a third-generation nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate that inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and is commonly used to prevent skeletal-related events in cancers with bone involvement or to treat osteoporosis. The combination has been studied for its potential to improve invasive disease-free survival (iDFS) and overall survival (OS) when added to standard endocrine therapy in hormone receptor-positive patients; however, clinical trials have shown no significant improvement over ibandronate alone, though increased toxicity was observed[2][7]. This regimen does not have a unique brand name and represents an off-label or investigational use rather than a marketed fixed-dose combination.
