Overview

This is a combination regimen consisting of three agents: - **Capecitabine** is an oral prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a nucleoside metabolic inhibitor that interferes with DNA synthesis and inhibits the proliferation of rapidly dividing cancer cells. - **Oxaliplatin** is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death. - **Selenomethionine** is an organic selenium compound used as a dietary supplement; in this context, it may be included for its potential to reduce chemotherapy-induced toxicity or enhance antitumor effects. The combination of capecitabine and oxaliplatin (often called CAPOX or XELOX) is established for the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal malignancies. Selenomethionine has been investigated as an adjunct to platinum-based chemotherapy regimens due to its antioxidant properties and potential ability to mitigate adverse reactions without reducing anticancer efficacy[1][3][8][10].
