Overview

Capent is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical ointment developed and marketed by Laboratorios Columbia for the treatment and prevention of diaper rash. It is a combination product containing zinc oxide (25%) and lanolin (15.5%). Zinc oxide serves as a skin protectant by creating a physical barrier that shields the skin from moisture, enzymes, and other irritants found in feces and urine. Lanolin acts as an emollient, helping to soothe, soften, and hydrate the skin. The product is indicated for protecting minor skin irritations associated with diaper rash and is applied topically to the affected area. Laboratorios Columbia obtained FDA licensing for Capent in 1992 and began exporting the product to the United States in 1993.
