Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Diclotal Forte Gel is a topical fixed-dose combination gel developed by Blue Cross Laboratories for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal disorders, sprains, strains, low back pain, and arthritis. The formulation combines the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac (as diclofenac diethylamine) with methyl salicylate, menthol, capsaicin, and linseed oil. Diclofenac and methyl salicylate act as cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors to reduce prostaglandin synthesis, thereby alleviating pain and swelling. Menthol and methyl salicylate function as counterirritants to produce cooling and warming sensations that distract from deeper pain, while capsaicin acts as a transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) agonist to deplete substance P and block pain signals. Linseed oil, rich in alpha-linolenic acid, provides additional anti-inflammatory properties and soothes skin irritation.
