Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Capsulin is an oral formulation of recombinant human insulin developed by Diabetology Ltd, utilizing the proprietary Axcess delivery system. This technology incorporates a solubilizer and a penetration enhancer to facilitate the absorption of insulin across the intestinal wall into the portal circulation, mimicking the natural physiological route of insulin secretion. By entering the portal vein, Capsulin aims to achieve hepatoselectivity, reducing peripheral hyperinsulinemia compared to subcutaneous injections. It was primarily investigated for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in patients inadequately controlled on metformin. The Axcess system is designed to protect the insulin peptide from gastric degradation while promoting its uptake in the small intestine.
