Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Capsulin OAD is an oral formulation of recombinant human insulin developed by Diabetology Limited for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The drug utilizes the proprietary Axcess™ oral delivery technology, which employs enteric-coated capsules containing pharmaceutical excipients that facilitate the absorption of insulin in the small intestine. By delivering insulin orally, the drug aims to mimic the physiological portal delivery of insulin, activating insulin receptors to improve glycemic control, reduce HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, and triglycerides. Phase 2b clinical studies demonstrated that Capsulin OAD was safe and effective, with no confirmed treatment-linked hypoglycemic events. It is currently in Phase 3 development and is distinguished from Capsulin IR, which is intended for insulin replacement in Type 1 and late-stage Type 2 diabetes.
