Overview

CaPTHymone is an oral formulation of the parathyroid hormone (PTH) 1-34 fragment, developed by the Australian biotechnology company Bone Medical Limited. Designed as a non-invasive alternative to injectable osteoporosis treatments like Forteo (teriparatide), CaPTHymone utilizes a specialized oral delivery technology to allow the biologic peptide to enter the bloodstream. Its mechanism of action involves the up-regulation of osteoblasts, which stimulates new bone formation and helps regulate calcium levels. The drug was primarily investigated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, Paget's disease, and other bone-related disorders. Although Phase 1 clinical trials demonstrated successful systemic absorption and biological activity, development appears to have ceased, as evidenced by the abandonment of its trademark in 2010.
