captopril + losartan

Captopril + losartan is a combination of two antihypertensive agents, each targeting the renin-angiotensin system through distinct mechanisms. Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the type 1 (AT1) receptor on vascular smooth muscle and adrenal gland tissues, also resulting in vasodilation and decreased blood pressure. The combination may provide additive effects on lowering blood pressure by inhibiting both production and action of angiotensin II[4][6]. Both drugs are primarily indicated for hypertension; they may also be used in other cardiovascular conditions such as heart failure or nephropathy depending on clinical context.
