Overview

CaPVax is an autologous dendritic cell-based cancer vaccine developed by the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCLA) for the treatment of metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer. The therapeutic process involves isolating a patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells, which are then differentiated into mature dendritic cells ex vivo. These dendritic cells are loaded with recombinant prostate-specific membrane antigen (rPSMA), a protein highly expressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells. When re-infused into the patient, these antigen-presenting cells are designed to stimulate a robust, targeted T-cell immune response against PSMA-expressing tumor cells, potentially overcoming the immune tolerance often seen in advanced prostate cancer.
