CAR-37 T cells are a form of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy specifically engineered to target the CD37 antigen. CD37 is a surface protein expressed on B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and some cutaneous and peripheral T-cell lymphomas. The therapy involves collecting a patient's own (or donor) T cells and genetically modifying them in the laboratory to express a synthetic receptor (CAR) that recognizes CD37. Once infused back into the patient, these modified T cells can recognize and kill cancerous B or T lymphocytes expressing CD37. Preclinical studies have shown that CAR-37 T cells demonstrate robust antigen-specific activation, cytokine production, cytotoxic activity against tumor models in vitro and in vivo—including patient-derived xenografts—and prolonged remissions without significant fratricide or off-target effects[2]. This approach represents an investigational immunotherapy for patients with relapsed or refractory lymphoid malignancies expressing CD37.
