Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CAR-506 is an investigational oral liquid formulation of the loop diuretic furosemide, developed by Carmel Biosciences using its proprietary Bio-Logic technology. The platform is designed to create stable, ready-to-use liquid versions of commonly prescribed cardiovascular medications that are typically available only in solid oral dosage forms. CAR-506 aims to provide a more convenient and precise dosing option for patients with dysphagia or those requiring weight-based titration, such as pediatric or geriatric populations. As a loop diuretic, the active ingredient furosemide inhibits the sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter (NKCC2) in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, promoting the excretion of water and electrolytes. The program is currently in the IND-enabling stage, targeting indications such as edema associated with congestive heart failure, renal impairment, and hepatic cirrhosis, as well as hypertension.
