CAR-CD22 T cells are a class of autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies engineered to target CD22, a sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin expressed on the surface of B cells. These therapies are primarily developed for the treatment of relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies, including B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and large B-cell lymphoma. CD22 is often targeted as a secondary or alternative antigen to CD19, particularly in patients who have experienced CD19-negative relapse following CD19-directed CAR-T therapy. The therapy involves collecting a patient's T cells, genetically modifying them to express a CAR specific for CD22, and re-infusing them into the patient to induce a targeted immune response against malignant B cells.
